I founded CMO Centre in 2006. I stopped working as a full time marketing director after more than 16 years working for large international brands and smaller high growth businesses. The last seven years of which was for a company that I joined with 12 people and £2m revs in 1998 and went through the complete cycle of being acquired and re-brand, management buyout, VC capital raise, global expansion, IPO, acquisitions at +£10m rev and 80+ people.
Through that experience I learnt the complete marketing cycle, we created a big company footprint on a small company budget with very limited resources. It was here that I realised that successful marketing was measurable and pragmatic and often it meant working on strategy and messaging one moment and email campaign delivery the next, brand and visual identity and then demonstrating products on an exhibition stand – there was no room for luxury and everything we did had to show a clear return to the business.
